AI democratizes execution: what that means for independent brokers

Why access to information is only the beginning, and how smaller brokerage teams can turn it into more consistent execution.

Information is the starting point

A broker can have a lender list, a full inbox, and a clear understanding of a merchant’s needs—and still spend the afternoon chasing documents. Access to information does not automatically produce a complete submission or a timely follow-up.

Josh E. Shamoil’s September 22 post captured the distinction that guides our thinking at Specter: the next opportunity is helping teams act on what they know.

Make the next step easier to execute

Consider a file arriving with an application, bank statements, and a conversation spread across several emails. Someone has to bring that context together, identify what is missing, and decide what happens next.

AI assistance can help organize that work: summarize the conversation, extract details for review, draft a document request, and suggest the next task. The useful outcome is a clearer handoff, with a person able to check the source and correct the result.

Consistency matters as much as speed

For an independent brokerage, the opportunity is to make a repeatable process available to a small team. A checklist followed on every file can be more useful than a fast answer that nobody can verify.

That is the operating principle behind our work on Specter: connect the information, the workflow, and the people responsible for the next step. Automation should make ownership easier to see.

Measure the work that actually improves

Start with a narrow workflow and a baseline. How long does it take to assemble a review-ready file? How many follow-ups are needed to collect missing documents? How often does a team member need to correct extracted information?

Compare those measures after introducing assistance. Faster execution is valuable when the file remains accurate and the team can explain its decisions. AI output needs review; lending, underwriting, and compliance decisions remain the responsibility of qualified people.

See the workflow in practice.
